Description

A genuine guru lifts sincere disciples to a life of sustainable spiritual happiness, asking nothing in return other than the disciples’ continued determination on the spiritual path. Such a selfless, compassionate guru naturally inspires gratitude from the disciple, which the disciple especially expresses on the guru’s birthday, known as Vyasa Puja. This book is a compilation of eighteen popular Vyasa Puja poems honoring His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami (Srila) Prabhupada composed by Kalakantha Das, his disciple since 1972. It will be of particular interest to members and friends of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), the worldwide bhakti-yoga society founded by Srila Prabhupada in 1966. Some of the poems describe Srila Prabhupada’s dramatic journey to America in 1965 as a penniless, elderly monk equipped only with a trunkful of spiritual books, his knowledge and devotion, and the order of his guru, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, to introduce bhakti-yoga to the English-speaking world. These poems will inspire those familiar with ISKCON and Srila Prabhupada. Others poems give an intimate, real-world glimpse into the guru/disciple relationship, making the book a valuable reference for scholars of Hinduism. And the spiritual seeker will find a moving testimony to the reality of God consciousness and the potent, transformative power of a genuine spiritual teacher in one’s life. “All That Lies Between” is illustrated with exquisite pencil and ink portraits of Srila Prabhupada drawn by his beloved disciple Kuladri das. The book is introduced by His Holiness Giriraj Swami, a distinguished author and senior disciple of Srila Prabhupada. These contributions enrich and add depth to the reader’s enjoyment, whether they approach the book as a devotee, a scholar, or a newcomer to spiritual life.

A Great Saint in Our Time

If you are a follower of Eastern philosophy or religions, you will appreciate this short and to the point homage to A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder Archarya of the International Hare Krishna movement. Prabhupada’s Vaisnava culture has been around for thousands of years, but was virtually unheard of in the West, until this small figure of a holy man left India, boarded a boat with seven dollars in his book bag. He also brought with him a few copies of a book he had dedicated his life to translating into English, so that the English speaking world could appreciate and experience Krishna consciousness.

In this often violent and confusing world, where the general masses of people live in bewilderment regarding the real issues of life and death, this great soul gave up a peaceful, spiritual life in the holy dhama to bring the light of the Vedas to shine brightly on all souls who may cross his path through his books. While in America for 11 years, he translated over 70 volumes of Vedic history, philosophy and culture explaining the life of Lord Krishna in full detail. Prabhupada left a rich legacy of beauty and information on bhakti yoga, the yoga of true understanding of the relationship between the soul and its creator. His books have now been translated into more than 100 languages. From most humble beginnings in the Bowery of NY city in 1965 to an international movement which included establishing over 108 temples around the world, numerous farm projects, vegetarian restaurants, a hospital, eco villages, schools as well as preaching centers on many university campuses all accomlished while traveling around the world 12 times is nothing short of miraculous. The sincerity of this holy man’s compassion for others and his desire to introduce Krishna to the World in order to fulfill the request of his own spiritual master and to reduce the suffering of humanity at large could only be accomplished by an authentic pure saint in our time.
