1) gaurā pahu nā bhajiyā goinu prema-ratana-dhana helāya hārāinu
2) adhane yatana kari dhana teyāginu āpana karama-doṣe āpani ḍubinu
3) sat-saṅga chāḍi’ kainu asate vilāsa te-kāraṇe lāgilo ye karma-bandha-phāṅsa
4) viṣaya-viṣama-viṣa satata khāinu gaura-kīrtana-rase magana nā hainu
5) keno vā āchaye prāṇa ki sukha pāiyā narottam dās keno nā gelo mariya
English rendition
1) I failed to serve Gaura Prabhu, throwing life away. Giving up the wealth of prem, I quickly lost my way.
2) Having lost the wealth of prem, I worked in poverty, leaving me to dive into a pool of sinful deeds.
3) I stayed with the sinful. For the saints, I had no use. Soon I became tightly bound in karma’s grueling noose.
4) Focused on my senses, I drank poison on and on, missing all the nectar of Lord Gaura’s saṅkīrtan.
5) Why do I keep living? What enjoyment do I know? Narottama dāsa should have perished long ago.
