English rendition
1) Because of my selfish notions, I fell in a dismal ocean, waters of despair that have no shore. The poison of sense enjoyment consumes me at every moment. My mind finds no pleasure anymore.
2) Endless urges keep me in check, nooses wrapped around my neck, a stream of diverse anxieties. Lust, anger, greed and illusion make me crazy with confusion, robbing me of life like many thieves.
3) The robbers of speculation and self-centered motivations throw me in an ocean of distress. My friend Krishna, sea of mercy, won’t You kindly liberate me. Not one bit of strength do I possess.
4) I have fallen! Kindly place me as a speck of dust on Your feet. This Bhaktivinoda counts on You. Though I’m Your eternal servant, my forgetfulness is urgent. From māyā’s embrace, I turn to You.
